Vienna has been voted many times the most liveable city in the world and it is not hard to see why from the moment you set foot into one of the most stunning cities in the world. Its white washed elegant buildings, arty vibe and baroque palaces will set you back centuries and its modern yet chic vibe will make you feel alive and full of energy. One of the most outstanding things about Vienna is how clean and well run every part of the city is from transport, or getting around by foot, everything operates perfectly and is organised together in an extraordinary way.

Saving Money Tips | Vienna

Austria can be expensive in certains area but Vienna is about average and there are always ways to save a little money along the way, some are listed below.

  • Street food and markets –Visit the street food markets and eat some delicious food for cheaper than dining in the restaurants.
  • Backpack food- Bring sandwiches and snacks in your backpack along you hike, also Vienna has the one of the most fresh cleaning drink water so you can keep filling up your water bottles!
  • Hotels- The hotels are expensive in comparison to the rest of europe however you will be sure to have great service, food and most hotels have spas and spacious rooms, so you really do get your money’s worth.
  • Book travel in advance– If you are travelling via train then book in advance, travelling is expensive in Austria if you do not book in advance but otherwise you can get a comfortable train ride for a reasonable price.

Top Things to do | Vienna

Museumsquartier- If you love art, you have got to come here! The Museumsquartier now offers three different museums: the Leopold Museum for Art Noveau and Experessionism; Kunsthalle Wien. You will also find some festivals here throughout the year, definitely a must visit in Vienna.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral– Built in the 12th century, this Cathedral is not to be missed!

Free walking tour In Vienna- ( www.goodviennatours.eu) – What a better way than to get a free tour around the city on your first day in Vienna! This is a great way to get to know the city and to find out interesting facts on the history of the buildings and they are open to any questions you may have. Imperial Palace – Opened from  9am-5:30pm (Sep-June), 9am-6pm (July -August) this will set you back 14 EUR entry for adults and 8.20 EUR for children. This is a large complex with many different options of places to visit including Imperial Apartments, butterfly museum, the imperial Treasury and the National Library. We would recommend for the extra money using the tour with audio as it gives you great information on the exhibitions and is worth the money.

Naschmarkt- Who does not love a food market? You need to visit the largest food market in Vienna where you will see many street food, fresh fruits, places to dine and on a nice summer’s day you can sit outside and watch the world go by here with your favourite beverage. (Opening hours: Monday-Friday 9am-7:30pm and Saturday 9am-5pm)

Wine tour – A must for us in Vienna, wine tasting! Visit Wachau Valley and taste some delicious wines with some great food!

Where to eat | Vienna

Tian Bistro $$$ – Exceptional, well presented and delicious Viennese cuisine in a great location! What a better way to spend the evening after a day in a perfect setting with staff  more than welcoming who enjoy a chat with their customers, a great place with great company! The tasting menu called ‘The Sharing Chef’s Garden’ is definitely worth the money and highly recommended, each dish is freshly made with local ingredients and the wine options compliments each dish perfectly, in fact it is one of the highlights of our trip, a must visit in the city!

 

 

Lola Spanisches Tapas Restaurant $$-$$$ – An absolute must if you enjoy stunning spanish cuisine! The walk to the restaurant was one of our favourite strolls in Vienna, the area is extremely clean and quaint. When greeted by the hosts they made us feel very welcomed and they were more than friendly!  Some of the dishes to try include the calamari, shrimp and prosciutto which were all delicious. This is a great all round restaurant from the service to the food, everything was outstanding and the ambience is one to remember.

 

 

Restaurant Marks $$-$$$ –  A relaxing, modern and peaceful dining experience in Vienna, Marks is a great place to come dine and drink inside or outside. The service was friendly and the food is well put together and beautifully presented!

 

 

Swing Kitchen $ – Would highly recommended! Is a vegan restaurant in beautiful part of vienna, you can go to the bar by self service and they offer everything vegan and organic!  The Cheese burger and Swing burger with fries are worth a try, with the meat being Soja Burger and the vegan desserts are delicious.

 

 

Where to stay | Vienna

Recommended Hotel – Hotel Kugel $$$ – A traditional Viennese hotel, full of character and personality, in a fantastic location, near the historic building close to the Museum Quarter. It has been beautifully restored and the rooms are extremely large, well appointed and offer a very comfortable night’s sleep. The hotel is very convenient to many local amenities and in the best area for good local restaurants. The breakfast is presented well with a great selection of foods and the staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

 

 

Hotel Zeitgeist Vienna Hauptbahnhof $$-$$$ – A clean, friendly and modern hotel with a comfortable night’s sleep. One of the highlights is the hotel’s breakfast offering one of the biggest selections we have seen in a hotel, from hot to cold selections, truly a fantastic breakfast worth the money!  There is a small gym in the hotel and a sauna which offers a nice balcony to sit out and relax on and the hotel is within walking distance to a tram offering transport to all attractions within 10 minutes. A great hotel for the price!

 

 

Le Meridien Vienna $$$$ – The hotel is immaculate,modern and perfectly located near the Opera House, cafes and mass transit. The staff are very friendly offering fantastic recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing and travel. A great stay for the price in Vienna.
