Arguably the most beautiful city in the world and one of our favourites, Barcelona, the city that really does have it all! The capital of Catalonia is bursting with character, full of great architecture and history, amazing tapas and a friendly atmosphere. Barcelona is a city you have to visit and once you do you will understand why it a travellers favourite.

 

Saving Money Tips | Barcelona

Barcelona is a very affordable city in comparison to many other big cities out there! There are ways to save money of course, check them out below.

  • All you can eat tapas– If you want to try tapas but do not want to pay a hefty bill, you will come across in the Gothic Quarter some all you can eat tapas for around 25 euro.
  • Drink Deals – Sangria sangria! –  There are happy hour deals for beer and sangria for around 5 euro for a large glass of sangria or a jug for 10 euro, you will not be disappointed.
  • Food deals – Food is reasonable in Barcelona and the supermarkets are more than affordable, mercadona and the bakeries are within walking distance and you can find some great salads, sandwiches for around 5 euro. The average meal in a restaurant is around 13 euro per person.
  • Bring your own- There are many picnic spots in barcelona, along the beach or in the parks to bring your own picnic, this can be romantic and a nice way to sit with friends and enjoy some nice wine, cheese, ham and salamis.
  • Airbnb- The hotels can be expensive but if you book airbnb in advance you can find some good deals, use of kitchen will save you money on eating out.

Top Things to do | Barcelona

Main attractions you can get to by bike or foot:

Gothic Quarter – Visit the gothic quarter or sometimes known as the Ciutat Vella which is the oldest part of Barcelona and you can easily get to the famous Las Ramblas from here. The coast is a ten minute walk from here, the promenade is something special offering a real sense of paradise in such a buzzing city.

L’Eixample – Here you will find many nightclubs, bars and some of the greatest architecture in Barcelona.

FC Barcelona Camp Nou – If you like football then this is a must! You can take a tour here or visit a game, this stadium is something special!

Spend a day at the beach – You will see why this beach is voted the best city beach in the world, boasting with golden sand, you will feel like you are on the costa del sol for a moment. Of course the beach gets extremely busy but you will find a spot and for being in the centre of Barcelona, we really can’t complain of this luxury!

Visit Tibidabo – Tibidabo is a mountain which overlooks Barcelona, here you will see views all over the city and coastline. Tibidabo can be reached by train,bus or by car. The church took 60 years to build and at the top is the beautiful Sacred Heart. Definitely worth a visit.

Where to eat | Barcelona

Rao Restaurant & Cocktail Bar $$-$$$ – Rao is probably the best restaurant in Barcelona. A hidden gem at the moment, but the word is getting out fast so get there whilst you can. With an atmosphere perfectly placed between fine dining & casual, food perfectly balanced between tapas & main courses, all at reasonable prices, Rao is a force to be reckoned with on the BCN culinary scene! The restaurant has a cosy feel, but with a contemporary rustic touch. The exquisite presentation of all courses is the icing on the cake and only adds to perfectly balanced and innovative combinations of flavours. On our visit the owners, Julian and Maryana kindly added their in depth knowledge of the menu and surrounding region to educate us on the source of many ingredients, as well as local wines and beer.

 

Chaka Khan $$-$$ –  The ambience is intimate and personal with a cosy exotic feel to it and is very romantic for couple or a group. You can sit at the bar or table and enjoy a well made cocktail and food. On the menu there is a large selection of food and the dishes represent different authentic foods from various continents. The staff are very accommodating and the waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable, providing information on the background of the dishes, this is an experience in itself. The ‘Chaka’ bar downstairs has live music which you can enjoy before or after your meal and the atmosphere is fantastic here, a great place for a memorable night.

 

Acces $$$$ – This restaurant is in a hidden location and provides a great atmosphere from the moment you walk in, with a glass wall looking through to the kitchen. The food and wine menu is fantastic and the food is tastefully present. Definitely worth a visit for some great food in Barcelona.

Where to stay | Barcelona

Recommended Hotel –Sweet BCN Traveller House $$-$$$ – This hotel boasts a perfect location, close to all the action in Barcelona, including supermarkets, restaurants, bars, metro station. You can walk anywhere in the city within 15 minutes to all attractions such as the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet with aircon and the living room is shared among the other apartments. The kitchen is fully equipped, there are four shared spacious shower and toilet rooms that have all you need including music. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and will help you with any questions you may have, on our arrival we were delighted with a plethora of information about the accommodation and surrounding areas. If you need to contact management there is an ipad and you can submit your query on it. The location is near the village, Gracia, a traditional intriguing village with great food and prices. Highly recommended for your stay in Barcelona!

 

Melia Barcelona Sky $$$ – Only 30 minutes on the metro to barcelona this 29 storey hotel is modern and well kept. The rooms are clean,comfortable and the staff are more than accommodating. The breakfast was plentiful with plenty of options and the bar area is relaxing. The closest metro is a 5 minutes walk from the hoel and a 10 journey “T10” ticket costs only €10 from ticket machines. A great warm stay in Barcelona.

Yurbban Passage Hotel & Spa $$$$ – From the moment you arrive, you will be blown away with the service in this hotel, a nice touch is the pillow choices you specifically can choose from. Included in the price is breakfast, with a great selection of food and drinks. This is a great hotel for location, close to the beach only 15 minute walk away and you can enjoy the rooftop bar at the hotel and they even provide ice cream floaties. A nice relaxing stay in the city.
